Toughest decision in freelance translation

As freelance translators, we often face some tough choices. One of such choices is whether to accept or refuse a translation assignment that meets our language pair but falls in a domain in which we have little or no mastery. This becomes even tougher if by the time we receive such an offer, we have been idle for days or weeks.
Although one might be tempted to accept such an offer, it is good to always remember these:
– No one ever blames you for refusing a job, especially when you have valid reasons to do so.
-Everyone, including other translators, will blame you if you deliver poor quality. No one really cares about the reason why you delivered poor quality. If you deliver poor quality, you are a bad guy; and even the client that made you to deliver poor quality will become skeptical about you.
